Lake Level: Normal Pool

Water Clarity: 3 Feet

Water temperature: 47 Degrees

Winter is right around the corner and for many anglers, December marks the end of fishing season. The shorter days and cooler temperatures send most species into a winter slumber and most anglers indoors. Holiday parties, gift buying and visiting relatives dominate the December schedule and the long, lazy summer days on the lake are but a distant memory by now.

Call me crazy, but I have never...

Fall time means great fishing here at Riss Lake. In late October every year the Riss Lake Fishing Club stocks around 1000 lbs of farm raised Rainbow trout. These silver beauties provide an unique opportunity for anglers of all ages and are a favorite at the dinner table. Trout thrive in colder water temperatures and are relatively easy to catch right through the end of June.

On behalf of the community of Riss Lake I want to extend our sincere THANK YOU for hosting a wonderful neighborhood event recently. I have had numerous neighbors call me to say that the Riss Lake Fishing Club 5th Annual Lakeside Picnic on June 23rd was the single best event that they have ever attending in Riss Lake.

Lake Level: One Foot Below Normal Pool

Surface Water Temp.: 37 Degrees

It’s been a relatively mild winter here in the Midwest leaving Riss Lake free of ice for all of December and January. It is rare to be able to access the lake this time of year and most anglers prefer to stick with indoor activities like area Boat and Outdoor Shows. Cold water fishing is not for everyone, but it can provi...

The best part about the Riss Lake Fishing Club, in my opinion, is the friendships that have grown out of this organization. I have had the privilege of meeting and getting to know many of the residents here at Riss Lake and enjoy the social aspect of the club as much as I enjoy spending time on the water.

As a r...

December is here and holidays will soon be upon us! The fishing season is winding down as the water cools and the days grow shorter. This season provides us with wonderful opportunities to gather and share and count our blessings. They also make for the perfect chance to spin a few fish tales since you’ve got a captive...

By the time this issue hits your mailbox autumn will be in full swing on Riss Lake! The foliage around our lake provides a spectacular show and the fishing really heats up!

Cooler water temperatures and shorter days cause the acres of aquatic growth to begin to die. This leaves fish with fewer areas of cover and results in...

What a fantastic summer it has been at Riss Lake! It is encouraging to see more and more families enjoying time together on the water. It is also fun to see so many residents kayaking and canoeing on our beautiful lake!

I’ve just returned from southern Missouri where we spent a week with family at Big Cedar Lod...

The dog days of summer are here and the daytime fishing has slowed considerably. As water surface temperatures warm, the oxygen content diminishes, pushing fish to cooler and deeper waters. Most species will spend long hot days buried deep in the Coontail and American Pondweed which graces our shores, coming to the edges only in the m...
