HAPPY NEW YEAR RISS LAKE!!!
What a fantastic year 2011 was for the Riss Lake Fishing Club! The fishing was outstanding and attendance at our scheduled events was way up. This new year brings new opportunities to enjoy the lake and to get involved with a fantastic organization.
When Larry Chambers and I founded the Riss Lake Fishing Club in 2005 our mission was clear: encourage the preservation and enjoyment of Riss Lake and provide families with an opportunity to meet others who enjoy the lake. It has been very rewarding to see this organization grow!
RLFC hosts regular club tournaments and lake related activities that are open to any resident who wishes to attend. In addition to our instructional social events at the PAC, there are several fishing tournaments scheduled throughout the year.
Two exciting new projects have been slated for 2012 and we are currently seeking neighborhood volunteers.
The first project is the planting of trees along Highway 45 at the north end of the lake. With the assistance of the Missouri Department of Conservation, the club will plant a variety of small trees (approximately 300) beginning in late March. The goal is to reduce traffic noise, beautify the shoreline, add wildlife habitat and to create a more private setting for the lake.
We are also teaming up with the Missouri Department of Natural Resources and the University of Missouri to begin water quality sampling and monitoring to insure that our lake stays healthy.
Linda Gocken has volunteered to lead this project which involves a small time commitment for training. Volunteers need to contact Linda before January 31st to schedule training. Email Linda at [email protected] or call her at (402) 680-4566.
Learn more about the Lakes of Missouri Volunteer Program at www.lmvp.org. This is a fun and educational opportunity for anyone with scientific mind!
Riss Lake Fishing Club has a great website where you can find information these and other lake related activities. www.RissLakeFishingClub.com Derek Weber does a great job of posting photos, fishing tips and club updates. Check in regularly to keep up to date. Contact Derek if you wish to receive email notifications about upcoming events.
Wishing you and your family a Happy, Healthy and Fun New Year and looking forward to seeing you on the lake!
