What a fantastic summer it has been at Riss Lake! It is encouraging to see more and more families enjoying time together on the water. It is also fun to see so many residents kayaking and canoeing on our beautiful lake!
I’ve just returned from southern Missouri where we spent a week with family at Big Cedar Lodge at Table Rock Lake. While most of you are already familiar with this area, it was my first visit and I was really impressed! If you’ve already visited Big Cedar you’ve discovered a jewel, if you haven’t then you must GO!
Only four hours south of Kansas City you will find some of the most unique topography anywhere in the country. Rolling hills, jagged rock and crystal clear waters are the hallmark of the Ozarks. Table Rock Lake with its miles of natural shoreline and minimal boat traffic makes a great destination for vacationers.
The accommodations at Big Cedar were perfect for our family reunion. Located right on the water, we brought a boat and rented a slip at the marina for a modest $20/day. Rooms at the lodge were pricey ($250+/night) but factoring in all of the included amenities they are still a value.
My five-year-old niece just couldn’t get enough of the Lazy River, the Kid’s Fishing tournament and free Smores by the campfire. We enjoyed several meals together on our patio and roamed the grounds of the lodge enjoying nature at its finest.
The fishing on Table Rock Lake is pretty fantastic too! We caught nice bass each day even on 100 degree days! The lake is known for good populations of Largemouth but also is home to some very feisty Smallmouth Bass.
It is also worth mentioning that Lake Taneycomo is only a few miles away from Big Cedar. This lake which stays a constant 55 degrees year round is stocked with Trout and provides excellent fishing.
If you’re looking for an easy destination that offers something for everyone, Table Rock Lake and Big Cedar Lodge is definitely a MUST SEE!
Please join us on September 17th for the final Bass Tournament of the year and mark your calendar for the Year End BBQ Dinner at the PAC on October 11, 2011.
