About Me

I'm just a po boy who was shooting at some food and up from the ground came some bubbling crude. Oil, that is. Texas tea. Loaded up the family and moved to Riss. Been happy ever since.  I'm now a fishing bum -- both on the job (writing for the KC Star) and off (when I'm in bass boat on Riss Lake). Riss is a tremendous place to fish, but very challenging. And very humbling. You can catch the heck out of them one day and get blanked the next day. But I keep coming back for more, just like a loyal dog who has just been whipped. We love the lake, the neighborhood and the friendly people who make this community a special place.

Brent...Congratulations on finding the website. Thanks for the post. We had an AWESOMEday on Riss yesterday. We arrived at the "Honey Hole" right at 3:00 PM and were greeted with a 30 degree temp. drop. The winds picked up an were HOWLING from the North by the time we had had enough. We caught 20-30 Crappie and about 10 LM Bass. The largest was about 4 LBS.. All fish were healthy and I was encouraged by the size both length and girth. Our efforts to "thin the herd" are working.

The Crappie were biting on my "floating fly" with a very consistent, but subtle bite. We released most, but kept a few for a fish fry.

I agree with all of your comments about Riss Lake. Excellent fishing, but a lake that will humble you on most days. I am proud of the work that you, Larry and all of our active club members have done and I know that we will see some very positive results this year.

I am looking forward to our first bass tournament of 2010 which is this coming Saturday March 27, 2010 at 7:30. I hope to see you there!
